Summertime is upon us, and for the PSL team, that means getting outside and exploring as much as possible. Be it flyfishing on the Yellowstone River in Montana, or canoeing the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, we’re passionate about being on the water. This passion helped fuel our desire to create a product that could shine in all kinds of environments. As avid adventurers ourselves, we put the Personal Solar Light (PSL) to the test on countless waterlogged excursions, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results.
If you’ve spent any amount of time on the river, you know that dry bags don’t always cut it when it comes to keeping your gear safe and dry. But because it’s waterproof and floats, you won’t need to worry if the PSL accidentally goes overboard, or takes a splash or two. Whether you’re camping riverside at your local state park, or chasing trout in the backcountry, having a reliable, waterproof light source can make your whole experience a little brighter.
We know that when you’re kayaking, rafting, canoeing or fishing, things are bound to get a little wet from time to time, and that’s part of the fun. What’s not fun is fumbling around in the dark at a creekside campsite because your flashlight got soaked. Having been in that unfortunate circumstance ourselves, we wanted to produce a bright, rechargeable light that was easy to pack in, and could put up with the moisture that inevitably comes with some of our favorite activities.
There’s no shortage of products on the market today designed for the outdoor enthusiast who likes to spend time on the water. Truth be told, you could spend a lifetime (and a small fortune) experimenting with the latest and greatest in waterproof equipment. Perhaps, like some of us, you consider yourself a “gearhead,” and you love learning about the latest innovations in outdoor gear, pouring over specs and reviews.
But part of what drives us to spend time in the natural environment is our appreciation for simplicity. This appreciation fuels our creative process and shapes our approach to product development. Out of this mindset came the PSL, a very simple device that almost anyone can operate. An uncomplicated design, the PSL is a durable, waterproof and reliable light that floats in the water and is charged by the sun. We think there’s beauty in the PSL’s simplicity, and we like it that way.
